Suur torm. Väga suur torm. Suurim torm viimastel aastatel. Pärast päevast lumevangis olemist Lõuna-Eestis sai Tallinna poole veerema hakatud. Nähtavus oli siis selline.
A storm. A very big storm. The biggest storm in recent years. We were snowed in in Southern Estonia for a day. As we started heading home, the visibility was like this.

Patagoonia pingviin, Spheniscus magellanicus

Üks kõige enam levinud pingviiniliik maailmas. Konkreetselt seda isendit võis näha Beagle'i kanalis asuval saarel, kus asus nende koloonia.
Magellanic Penguin is one of the most common penguin species in the world. Specifically this individual was seen on one island in Beagle Channel as there was their colony.

Lõunakormoran, Phalacrocorax atriceps

Tulemaa kandi kalade ja teiste väiksemate vee-elukate hirm.
The biggest fear of the fish and other small sea creatures of Tierra del Fuego waters - Imperial Shag or Imperial Cormorant.

Lõuna merilõvid, Otaria byronia

Merilõvid aega veetmas ühel Ushuaia lähedasel saarel. Nende möirged olid väga sarnased lõvi omale, seega nimi täiesti õigustatud.
South American sealions spending time on an island near Ushuaia, Argentina. They roar was very similar to lion's, so the name is justified.

Ürgne pöögimets

Tulemaa Rahvuspargi veidi müstilisena paistev matkarada lookles ürgses pöögimetsas. Kuna kaasmatkajaid praktiliselt polnud, siis elamus oli vägev.
One of the hiking trails of Tierra del Fuego National Park that meandered in a pristine beech (mainly Lenga beech and Guindo) forest. As there were practically no co-hikers, the experience was great.

Väikekarakaara, Milvago chimango

Väga levinud kotkalised sealkandis. Osad olid inimestega isegi nii harjunud, et tulid laagriplatsis inimestelt laua pealt toitu nuruma (nagu meil varblased või tuvid). Tulemaa rahvuspark.
Very common birds thereabouts. Some Chimango Caracaras were so used to people that they came to beg for food from the table in the campsites (like sparrows or pigeons in Europe). Tierra del Fuego National Park.

Uudishimulik noorsand

Ühel hetkel avastasime, et lisaks lindudele jälgib meid veel üks silmapaar. Ühel kaljueendil uuris meie tegemisi väike Patagoonia rebane. Tulemaa rahvuspark.
One moment we discovered that besides the birds, another pair of eyes observed us. On a ledge of the cliff, a small Patagonian Fox (Culpeo) checked out our doings. Tierra del Fuego National Park.

Magalhaesi rähn, Campephilus magellanicus

Üks Tulemaa rahvuspargi sümbolitest. Tema toksimist oli ammu kuulda ja puhtjuhuslikult jäi ta ka võsas meile objektiivi ette. See on emaslind, isaslind peaks olema üleni punase peaga.
One of the symbols of Tierra del Fuego NP - Magellanic Woodpecker. We heard her tapping from the far and by chance managed also to get a picture in a dense bush. This is a female bird, male has entirely red head.

Karm loodus

Tulemaa kliima on karm - enamuse aastast lumine ja külm, tihti esineb tugevaid torme. Positiivne on aga inimasustuse vähesus, mis võimaldab loodusel vohada.
The climate of Tierra del Fuego is rough - most of the year it's snowy and cold, heavy storms are not rare. The positive side is the lack of human interference which allows the nature to proliferate.

Euroopa jänes, Oryctolagus cuniculus

Eurooplaste sissetoodud ja ohtralt paljunenud liik, mis (nagu pildilt näha) hoolitseb väga kohusetundlikult metsas asuvate muruplatside eest. Tulemaa rahvuspark, Argentiina.
Brought in by europeans (European rabbit) and profusely multiplied species that, as seen from the picture, takes a very conscientious care of the grass plots in the forest. Tierra del Fuego NP, Argentina.
