Mustsaba-vigle, Limosa limosa

Mustsaba-vigle, Limosa limosa, Black-tailed Godwit
Veel midagi täiesti uut. Seda viglet pole ennem isegi näinud, kuid pole ka ime, sest tegu on meil suhteliselt  haruldase liigiga.
Again something new. We have not even seen Black-tailed Godwit before as it is a quite rare species in Estonia.
Mustsaba-vigle, Limosa limosa, Black-tailed Godwit
Kohtutakse taas järgmisel kevadel, sest pesistuspaik on muutumatu. Selline suhe kestab kuni üks pooltest jääb pesitsuspaika tulemata. Pilt tehtud Saaremaal.
What is interesting with this Godwit is that the female will leave the nesting place couple of days after the chicks have hatched. The male bird takes care of the younglings for about a month and then leaves also. Male and female hibernate in different places as the male does not know where the female flew. They meet again next spring because the nesting place does not change. This kind of relationship continues until one of them does not show up in spring. The photo is taken in Saaremaa, Estonia
