Ähvardavad kaljud

Läbi Verdoni kanjoni (Prantsusmaa) sõit oli ääretult põnev. Tänu sadavale vihmale oli nähtavus nullilähedane, tee kurviline, tee peal kohati kaljude pealt langenud kivitükid ning tee kõrval sügav kuristik. Aga kui päike korraks pilve vahelt piilus, siis olid vaated väga võimsad.
A drive through the Verdon Gorge (France) was very thrilling. Due to the falling rain, the visibility was close to zero, a road itself was very curvy and on the road you could see small rocks fallen from the surrounding cliffs. And to top it all - by the road there was a deep gorge. But if the sun peeked from between the clouds, the views were magnificent.

Heleflamingo, Phoenicopterus ruber roseus

Õnnelind flamingo. Suurte soolaväljade kõrval asuv soolajärv oli nende seahäälsete ja õudsate nägudega lindude lemmikkoht. :) Muudkui õngitsesid vee alt koorikloomi.
By the large saline fields there was a saline lake that was the favourite place of the pig-voiced and horrid-faced birds - Rosy Flamingos. :) They were continuously searching the shellfish from under the water.

Veisehaigur, Bubulcus ibis

Valge iludus. Linnud kogunesid kambakesi karjamaal ja saime ühe peale tiivasirutust tegemas. Camargue, Provence, Lõuna-Prantsusmaa.

Linnubanded

Kusagil Bretagne rannikul nägime rändel olevaid rannalinde - tülle, rislasid ja tildreid. Kuigi hommik oli hiline, enamus lindudest veel magas üsna magusalt.
Somewhere along the coast of Bretagne we saw migrating coastal birds - plovers, sandpipers and shanks. Despite the late morning, most birds were still asleep.

Mõnikümmend meetrit eemal oli ka meriskitebande.
Couple of meters away there was also a gang of oystercatchers.

Perros-Guireci kaljud

Kaunid, roosad graniitkaljud mis on vormitud vee poolt aastatuhandete jooksul vapustavateks vormideks. Britannia, Prantsusmaa.
Beautiful, pink granite rocks which have been moulded by the sea within thousands of years into some amazing shapes and patterns. Bretagne, France.

Karikormoran, Phalacrocorax aristotelis

Loomulikult on kogu Euroopa rannik täis ka kormorane. Nood veidi teine liik kui Eestis näha võib, kuid käitumisviis on sama - kalavarude massiline hävitaja. Seitsme Saare Arhipelaag, Prantsusmaa.

Suula, Sula bassana

Loomulikult sai käidud Prantsusmaal ka linde vaatlemas. Lootsime esiti näha lunne, kuid nende aeg oli läbi (st juulis lendasid ära põhjapoole). Selle eest viidi meid Suulade pesitsuspaiga juurde. Pesitsuspaigaks oli korraliku suurusega saar, mis oli otsast otsani suulasid täis nagu pildilt näha.
Of course we did a bit of birdwatching when in France. We hoped to see Puffins but their time was up (meaning they left the area in July). Instead they took us to the vicinity of the nesting island of the Northern Atlantic Gannets. As seen from the picture - every inch on the island was taken.

For us these albatross-sized (meaning big) birds were exotic. We do not have those in Estonia and their appearance was distinctive. Besides that it was cool to watch when they rushed vertically to the water to catch fish. L'archipel des Sept Iles, Bretagne, France

Metsaskäik

Käisime jälle metsas (vahelduseks siis kodumaised pildid). Metsas olid seened. Värvilised, täpilised, suured, väikesed. Ämmatossudest ämmatapjateni. Veel viimane aeg talvevarusid täiendada.
We went to the forest again (pictures from Estonia for a change). There were mushrooms. Colorful, spotted, small and big. It is now the last time to collect the provisions for winter.

Krabi

Sellel tüübil vedas - tema suuremad vennad ja õed läksid mõõna ajal kohalike elanike söögipange. Normandias ja Bretagnes valgub mõõna saabudes kümneid inimesi rannaäärsetele laidudele krabisid ja muid molluskeid otsima. Sellised peopesa suurused krabid peavad veel veidi kasvama, et oleksid sobilikud lauale panna. Saint-Malo, Prantsusmaa.
This guy was lucky - his bigger brothers and sisters became the meals of the locals during the last low tide. In Normandy and Bretagne during the low tide tens of people flood onto the small islets near the beach to search crabs and other critters. Väikekoovitaja, Numenius phaeopus

Kohtusime Omaha rannas rändel oleva väikekoovitajaga, kes oli üpris julge. Teda ei heidutanud ka rannas hullavad koerad.
We met a brave Whimbrel during the peregrination on Omaha beach. He was not even scared of the frisky dogs.

Millegipärast meile tundus, et ta oli oma parvest maha jäänud teel Lõuna-Aafrikasse. Võib-olla olid liiva sisse peitunud krabid lihtsalt nii maitsvad, et ära lennata. Pildi saime niisiis Normanidas, Prantsusmaal.
Somehow we felt like he was left behind from the flock on the way to South-Africa. Maybe the sand crabs were too tasty to leave. The picture was thus taken in Normandy, France.

Falaises d'Etretat

...ehk Etretat kaljud. Prantsusmaal väga tuntud rannikukujundid - helevalged kõrged kaljud, milledesse vesi on auke uuristanud. Terasem silm ehk näeb kaljude otsas ja all rannas ka inimesi - no need pisikesed mustad täpid.
... or the cliffs of Etretat. Very famous rock formations in France - high white cliffs into some of which the water has made holes. A sharp eye can spot people on the cliffs and also on the beach. You know - these little black dots.
